When High Meadows began, there was recognition on the part of our founders and early leaders that we have much to learn from the people who walked this land before us. Not only in our immediate vicinity, but throughout our country. Native Americans had, through centuries of living on the land and observing the plants and animals who had lived here long before them, developed a huge respect for and knowledge of the world around them. As a way of focusing this appreciation at High Meadows, a Sioux tipi was chosen to define a space, to call the eye upward, to excite the intellect and refresh the senses. The tipi has been used primarily for teaching, meditation, and gathering. Feel free to use this space for yourself or with your children, maintaining an atmosphere of respect.
